Good Things Come from Helping Magic Bus (Blog #3/4)

Location, Location, Location

Countless hotels exist on river and lake banks but only a handful can claim to be IN the water. Such is the beauty of The Lake Palace in Udaipur. The charm begins dockside with the legendary Taj hospitality and escalates as we take the motorboat across to our adobe for two nights.

Being here is like being on a giant cruise ship: all one’s material needs can be met on board, leaving requires an effort and a journey (albeit short) over water, and there is the sense of returning to a haven after being out in a chaotic world (which pretty much describes old Udaipur). The sunrise and sunsets from the Palace rooftop leave us gasping. So does the view of the lake from our soaking tub (no one to draw the bath as at Umaid Bhavan but bath bubbles thoughtfully provided). And going slightly off-season means we get our favourite breakfast table each morning.

Hard to leave but the final destination of our Royal Rajasthan tour awaits us: Rambagh Palace in Jaipur.
